Diana Martinez, Ph.D.,
Master Black Belt

Diana Martinez, Ph.D. is a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt with over 14 years of experience working with dozens of companies in a variety of industries, from healthcare to government to e-commerce. She leads continuous improvement projects, and is one of the main LSS instructors at TMAC.

Areas of Expertise

Dr. Martinez has worked closely with many firms in applying lean best practices resulting in reduced costs, higher productivity, and a more skilled workforce. She focuses on transformations using the Lean Six Sigma DMAIC methodology. Her projects involve the use of many different tools including value stream maps, statistical data analysis, comprehensive layout analysis, root cause analysis, pull systems, and 5S.

Diana is the lead instructor of the LSS Green Belt program and has taught several LSS Black Belt classes as well. She has participated in the deployment of Lean Six Sigma in manufacturing and services industries.

Scope of Experience

Dr. Martinez has taught over 35 LSS classes including: Black, Green and Yellow Belt since 2015. During this time, she has also provided coaching to many LSS students to complete their projects and achieve their certification.

She has led/collaborated on continuous improvement projects with over 50 small and medium sized companies mainly in the DFW Metroplex area. However, she has provided consulting services in other states by request.

She is equipped with the soft and analytical skills required for any business transformation.

Relevant Assignments

Some of Diana’s most recent and relevant projects include:

The improvement in a manufacturing production line achieving 80% reduction in work in process and decreasing the process lead time from 92 to 5 days

A comprehensive analysis of the process flow and operations in a blood blank where she proposed a new layout considering the least capital investment. Her layout was selected for the building re-configuration

Adapted quickly to the online requests due to the pandemic and conducted over 15 kaizen events online resulted in the identification of dozen ideas for improvement per kaizen

Education and Training

Dr. Martinez received her Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from The University of Texas at Arlington in 2013. Her doctoral dissertation was on, “Variants of Multivariate Adaptive Regression Splines (MARS): Convex vs. Non-convex, Piecewise-Linear vs. Smooth and Sequential Algorithms.” The research focused on the study of an advanced statistical method called Multivariate Adaptive Regression Splines (MARS) and the development of variants and sequential algorithms that provide more flexibility to the modeling process and facilitate the optimization routines.

Honors and Awards

Dr. Martinez presented at the Lean and Six Sigma World Conference in 2017. In 2016, Dr. Martinez received her Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt certification from TMAC. More recently, Diana obtained the Core Consulting Skills Training certification from AIMC (Association of Internal Management Consultants)
